A large-scale survey undertaken by charity Education Support Partnership has revealed that school and college staff have a 13% higher chance of suffering from issues that affect mental and physical wellbeing compared to the national average of 62%. The top reason for their unhappiness was workload and work-life balance.
Teachers also have a higher-than-average level of stress according to the survey, 29% of those questioned reported that they felt stressed ‘most of the time’ or ‘all of the time.’ if you work in the education sector you probably already know this or are certainly nodding your head in agreement. At Textbook Teachers we see the evidence of the stress the teachers are coping with and their wellbeing is critical in how we approach our registration process and support them in taking the supply teacher route to re-balance their lives now.
Incredibly, half of those teachers surveyed said that they thought about leaving the sector due to health concerns in the last two years. At Textbook Teachers we understand how hard it is to admit that you are struggling at work, but you are not alone. The survey found that 64% of education staff did not feel confident disclosing their problems to headteachers.
With the nation’s full-time educating professionals experiencing way higher than average stress and turmoil, panic attacks and breakdowns are not uncommon. If you would like more information about the study then you can find it here.
